Come Write For Cracked, Everybody! It Pays Money!

Or use IZEA and other websites where a writer can find sponsored article opportunities. As an online magazine based in the UK it covers the popular zeitgeist. If you want to earn money by writing online for others, here are 10 sites where you can get paid to write your own articles. Cracked, a humor magazine created in 1958 to compete with Mad, was supposed to relaunch a print version in 2006.

Everyone was focused on the idea of relaunching the print magazine for some reason. Since all the money was being spent on the magazine, we were allowed to get away with publishing whatever made us laugh on the website. When the magazine relaunch didn’t work out, we were looking for real jobs when the site started picking up traction and Demand Media saved us. But there are also other benefits to getting published besides payment, as well. For one, you will get a lot of great exposure. And two, you will learn to become a better writer… even if you don’t end up making the cut the first time around.

If you’ve got the germ of an idea but are stuck on how to proceed, we’ll help you improve your research skills. If you’re worried that you don’t have any good ideas, we have an entire section dedicated to ideas that have potential but need some help. Some of Cracked’s writers have published hundreds of articles, and even become full-time employees.

Hi David, this is quite informative and I must say the little knowledge I had about article-writing websites and their rates has greatly been improved.

“There was the idea that you had to put pretty, half-dressed women in the thing to get people to buy the magazine,” O’Brien admits. Eventually, I realized that the list is just a shape that readers prefer, and that you could pour any sort of content you want into that mold. So we focused on making the best list shaped articles we possibly could. Even though we’re known for doing a lot of lists, our articles are never listing things. We’re using the list format to organize a series of interesting facts, or unexpected observations around a coherent thesis. Nobody wants to feel like they’re using a crutch to get people to read.

They are looking for articles on anything related to web development; this could be PHP, HTML5, CSS3 or anything in between. They prefer articles to be in the 1,200 – 1,800 words range. They pay between $150 to $1,000 per article depending on what category your article falls into. Depending on what category your submission falls into, it can be between 800 to 6,000 words. They pay a minimum of $250 and up to $1,500+ per article. Cracked has the following series throughout the years.

All I can tell you is that 10 years ago, I had never been paid to write because I wasn’t any good at it yet, and because Cracked didn’t care about that, I now write for a living. Cracked gave me money, and they gave me work I found rewarding. Maybe we can give you those things too. If you run into technical issues, click here. Whether you’re a writer looking for established outlets to spread your word, or you’re a guest blogger looking to promote your brand and get traffic, you can get paid to do so. About 30% of Cracked’s content is video. As of October 2014, Cracked had 22 web series exclusive to their site. In 2009, Cracked debuted the web series Agents of Cracked, which generated 20 million views over three seasons.

Most times it will simply be yes or no to your submission. We update this list all the time to keep it useful. If you find a site that’s reliable, let us know.
